PROGRESS PLEASES HAWKINS

Ipswich ‘Tru7.com’ Witches Team Manager Ritchie Hawkins was pleased with his side’s progress after they drew 45-45 at Scunthorpe on Sunday afternoon.

The Scorpions defeated the Witches at Foxhall last Thursday but it was a different story at the Eddie Wright Raceway as the Witches pushed all the way to claim two away points in the League Cup.

“I’m pleased with the draw and am happy with how all the boys went,” said Hawkins. “They got stuck in and showed a lot of determination, we are making progress and that’s what we want to do in every meeting.”

Nico Covatti was in fine form all afternoon scoring 14 from five rides and the boss was delighted with the contribution from all six riders.

“Nico was brilliant and every single rider rode better than Thursday. It’s a tough place to come Scunthorpe and I’m really happy with everyone’s progress.”

Despite only scoring 2+1 on the day Paco Castagna was worth more than his score suggests, suffering engine troubles whilst leading and having a race stopped whilst on course for a paid win and Hawkins has no worries the Italian will come good.

“It was a massive bonus for Paco today, he’s not getting much of a break at the moment but if he sticks with it and keeps progressing he will be fine.”

The Witches now have a break until the next meeting on Easter Monday at Peterborough and Hawkins says the break can work both ways but hopes to have Morten Risager back for the clash.

“Some riders will be better for the break, the ones who have been busy.  For the likes of Paco and Nico, they could probably do with a couple more meetings but we’ve got a week to prepare for Peterborough and hopefully Morten will be back by then too.

“Morten is hoping to be back for Peterborough. He’s going back to Denmark on Monday for treatment and will get a special boot fitted so he should be back, fingers crossed.”
