Bears Tamed By Flying Witches

Sun 31st May 2015

The Ipswich 'Sackers' Witches took a comfortable 65-25 win over the Redcar 'Ecco Finishing Supplies' Bears at Foxhall on Saturday night moving them up to seventh in the Premier league table.

Nico Covatti entertained the home fans on his way to a 16 point haul with Gino Manzares backing him up on 13+3. Top Bear was Matej Kus on 7 points.

On a very well prepared track Ipswich were in control from the first heat with Danny King & Gino Manzares scoring a 5-1 over ex-Witch Lasse Bjerre & Jan Graversen with Danny's time only 0.3 outside the track record. Despite the large points difference the racing was often very close and equalled some of the best seen so far this year. Heat three initially saw the Redcar pairing of Matej Kus & Adam Roynon on a 5-1 but Nico Covatti stalked and then overtook both of them in the same lap with Gino Manzares, starting 15 metres back after a tapes infringement, repeating this a lap later.

Heat five saw Nico Covatii take slightly longer to catch the Redcar skipper Stuart Robson but he timed his last bend pass just right and passed as they approached the chequered flag. After eight heats Redcar were 18 points adrift and Stuart Robson was nominated for a tactical ride. Unfortunately he fell while challenging Rohan Tungate and was disqualified for causing the race to stop. After this Ipswich never looked back and had sealed the victory as early as heat ten.

Co-promoter Chris Louis was pleased with teh result but warned that much tougher opposition will arrive at Foxhall in the coming weeks: "It was a much stronger team performance tonight and they all chipped in to achieve this result. Special mention to Gino after his disappointing start to the season through injury, etc. - he rode very well tonight and a big thank you to our guest James Sarjeant who provided excellent covered for Stefan (Nielsen). We need to build on this form now and continue to progress upwards in the League table".

No racing at Foxhall next Thursday so the Witches are next in action at Armadale stadium on Friday 5th June against Edinburgh.
