The Ipswich 'Sackers' Witches will take a twelve point lead to the second leg of the League Cup Semi Final on Sunday 30th September after a closely contested meeting against the Workington 'Thomas Armstrong' Comets at Foxhall last night.

Ipswich got off to a perfect start with a maximum win in heat one and after a shared heat two they pulled further ahead with a 4-2 in heat three. After three more shared heats Workington started to fight back with two 4-2s in heats seven & eight. Heat seven initially looked like it could be a 5-1 to the visitors but Rohan Tungate had other ideas and after four laps of passing & re-passing he managed to get second place on the line. The Comets were now back to within two points of the Witches.

Heats nine & ten were shared and then Mat Tresarrieu cane good for the Witches, after two last places, by winning the next two heats and with Rohan Tungate and then Taylor Poole following him home Ipswich had extended their lead to ten points. Workington responded with a 4-2 in heat thirteen after another heat where all of the places were contested for all four laps. The flying Frenchman, Mat Tresarrieu was back out in heat fourteen and he combined with Morten Risager this time to complete another 5-1. This gave Ipswich a twelve point lead which remained at the end of the meeting after a shared heat fifteen,

For the Witches Rohan Tungate looked back to his best with 11+1 with Taylor Poole also putting in a confidence-boosting performance scoring 8+2. As expected Comets guest Ricky Wells topped their scoresheet with 14 and previous Foxhall maximum man, Rene Bach, scored 9.
