As promised after last week's season preview by Ipswich 'Sackers' Witches captain Kevin Doolan we turn the spotlight on to two of our new signings from down under:
Rohan Tungate has put in a lot of preparation over the winter for his inaugural UK season and isn't planning on being a reserve in the Ipswich team for long. Based in Kurri Kurri, New South Wales he has been training a far bit and also racing whenever possible, which for him is equally important. Speaking from his Australian home he says "I enjoyed the Aussie Championship series; it went really well for me"
"I have been busy getting everything sorted before the start of the UK season. I hope to get off on a good start and keep the team up the point end of the field plus keep improving my average. Easy to say but it can be done! I think we have a really good team, not just the riders, everyone involved. I enjoyed the Ipswich track when I visited last year and can't wait to start entertaining the fans".
Dakota North has taken a slightly different approach, as he gets ready to wear a Witches racejacket for the first time. He did take part in the Aussie U21 Championship recently, scoring nine points and last weekend he came third, with partner Tom Armstrong, in the Undira Park Pairs meeting at Shepparton, Victoria (Dakota scored 18 of their 24 point total). But apart from these meetings he hasn't done a lot of other racing. He said recently "This summer I have just been working for my Dad and water skiing as much as I can to keep up my fitness. I've been trying to save as much money as possible so that I can buy all new bikes for this year. I think it should be a good season in the UK; I like Ipswich a lot and should be scoring big at home plus I will be trying to be more consistence away as well."
